    This hands-on class covers seed saving basics essential for gardeners looking to preserve their favorite plant varieties. Participants will learn proper techniques for saving seeds from various vegetable varieties and herbs, based on a curriculum developed through Cait’s training with the Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance. The class includes both theoretical knowledge and practical demonstrations, with participants receiving digital resources to reference after the session.

    By the end of this class, participants will:

The class covers the process of infusing oils with herbs and transforming them into healing salves of various consistencies depending on their intended use. Participants will learn about different plant properties and how to adjust recipes for specific applications like wound care or lip balm.

    By the end of this class, participants will:

    • Learn to create their own herbal teas using garden-grown ingredients

    • Learn how to transform infused oils into salves of different consistencies

Participants will learn specialized techniques for collecting native seeds, starting them successfully, and growing native plants, which require different approaches than conventional garden plants. The class emphasizes the ecological benefits of incorporating natives into home landscapes and provides practical guidance for successful cultivation.

  • Botanical Printing

    Tuesday, October 28th, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Yates Illuminates

    This creative workshop introduces participants to multiple botanical printing techniques. The class covers cyanotype printing, where sun exposure creates beautiful plant impressions on specially treated paper, and a pounding method that transfers plant pigments directly onto silk fabric to create personalized bandanas or scarves. Basic botany concepts, including leaf shapes and plant families, will be incorporated to enhance gardening knowledge.

    By the end of this class, participants will:

    • Learn two distinct botanical printing techniques (cyanotype and pounding method)

    • Create their own botanical prints on paper and fabric

    • Understand basic botany concepts related to leaf shapes and plant families

    • Feel confident in continuing botanical printing projects at home

The class covers extraction methods, preservation techniques, and applications for these concentrated herbal preparations. Participants will learn about appropriate plant selections and how to adjust recipes for different health-supporting or culinary purposes.
